{"id":129,"date":"2013-09-08T20:37:35","date_gmt":"2013-09-08T20:37:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/woobies.chrisduncalf.co.uk\/?page_id=129"},"modified":"2022-10-27T22:33:28","modified_gmt":"2022-10-27T22:33:28","slug":"accompanist","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wooburnsingers.org.uk\/?page_id=129","title":{"rendered":"Accompanist"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Simon Howat<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 70px;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2175 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/wooburnsingers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/S-Howat-photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wooburnsingers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/S-Howat-photo.jpg 558w, https:\/\/wooburnsingers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/S-Howat-photo-218x300.jpg 218w, https:\/\/wooburnsingers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/S-Howat-photo-131x180.jpg 131w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Simon Howat<\/strong> grew up in South Buckinghamshire and studied Music at Cambridge University, followed by post-graduate Piano Accompaniment at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">As the long-standing rehearsal pianist for the Wooburn Singers, Simon has accompanied a wide spectrum of choral repertoire, and highlight performances with the choir have included: <em>Porgy and Bess, <\/em>Verdi\u2019s Requiem,<em> Elijah, Carmina Burana, The Rio Grande<\/em>, <em>Belshazzar\u2019s Feast<\/em>,<em> Petite Messe Solennelle, Symphony of Psalms<\/em>,<em> The Bells<\/em>, Dvorak\u2019s <em>Stabat Mater, <\/em>Dyson\u2019s <em>Nebuchadnezzar<\/em> and Brahms\u2019<em> German Requiem. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Over the last three decades, or so, he has been in demand as an accompanist, piano instructor and &#8211; for a while &#8211; ABRSM music examiner. On the concert platform, Simon has appeared as a two-piano\/piano-duet pianist, as an accompanist for instrumental\/vocal recitals, and as a concerto pianist with several regional orchestras. Further afield, he has performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Grimeborn Festival, accompanying opera.
